Friendship Commanders news: đź’ŽFAILđź’Ž is out & MASS is open for pre-orders!

FROM FC:

Hello, friends!
We're so proud to share "FAIL" with you today, the second single from our forthcoming album. We're also excited to tell you that the album is called MASS, and you can finally pre-order it!

"FAIL" is a one-sided conversation between Buick and her longtime friend Marc Orleans who died by suicide in 2020. The song grapples with speaking about him in the past tense, hoping he knew how much she cared about and respected him when he was alive, and wondering if he can see and hear her now. The video (shot and directed by Jerry) premiered in Metal Injection yesterday, and the track is now streaming everywhere. We hope you love it. The cover is a photo of Buick at Walden Pond as a teenager, layered with a photo of Marc's hands playing his resonator guitar. The images are inverted and upside-down to express the unmooring impact of his passing.

MASS is a co-production between us and Kurt Ballou, a concept record that we're going to continue to unspool over the coming months. It feels great to share the pre-order for the physical copies of the work, as well as the book that Buick has written to accompany the music. It's called MASS: Essays on Memory, Language, & the State of Massachusetts. Both projects will be out in September. We recommend ordering them now, as there are some very limited merch offerings, including hand-rendered cyanotype prints—all numbered and signed!

Thank you for being here for chapters one and two, and we'll be back with more of the story very soon.

We're so grateful for your continued support. Enjoy "FAIL"!

More soon!
Yours,
Buick & Jerry, FC

đź’ŽFAILđź’Ž by Friendship Commanders is coming May 5th - pre-save today!

From FC:

Hello, friends!

This is a quick note to let you know that the second single from our forthcoming album will be out on May 5th. It's called "FAIL." We'd be so grateful if you'd take a moment to pre-save/pre-add the track!

The new record is a collection about memory, language, and the state of Massachusetts; a co-production between us and Kurt Ballou. The project was prompted by the suicide of one of Buick Audra's longtime friends, and "FAIL" directly addresses that loss.

We're so grateful for your support of the lead single, "BLUE," and hope you love "FAIL." We sure do.

More soon!

Yours,
Buick & Jerry, FC

đź’ŽBLUEđź’Ž is out today - first single from the new Friendship Commanders album!

FROM FC:

Friends!

BLUE is out today! This is the lead single from our new body of work, a collection about memory, language, and the state of Massachusetts. A co-production between us and Kurt Ballou. We hope you love it!

“If you don’t yet have the language for what you want to say, you will.”

This is the thesis statement contained within “BLUE," which opens the forthcoming record. The work explores finding new vocabulary around lived experiences that were once cloudy and confusing for Buick Audra. We're so excited to share the first piece of this story. She says:

“Writing this project was largely prompted by the suicide of an old Boston friend. When he died, I glanced back at things I’d never wanted to, and I wrote a whole record about it. The process was like going underwater for short bursts and coming back up for air when I needed to. While I was down there, I was like, I suddenly see what all of this was, and I’m going to name it now.”

The video, which Jerry Roe shot, directed, and edited, premiered at CVLT Nation yesterday!

BLUE is streaming everywhere today // cover art cyanotype by Buick Audra

"If you're living in a chapter you don't know how to leave, you will."

Buick & Jerry, FC

New Friendship Commanders album in 2023 // Buick Audra music & writing updates // 33 Slade's albums are finally on all streaming platforms

Happy 2023!

We hope you’re all happy and well. We have some fantastic updates on several fronts. Here goes:

FRIENDSHIP COMMANDERS

FC’s third full-length album will release this year (!!!!) and we can't wait to start sharing the music with you very soon. In the meantime, Buick has started publishing the second half of the Massachusetts Memories series. The pieces are connected to the music; check them out!

Also, thanks to everyone who has purchased RELEASE THE REST vinyl (which turned out so beautifully!). There are some copies left; grab them while they’re here! This is the only pressing of those limited EP!

BUICK AUDRA

Buick is the most recent guest on the Let’s Talk Memoir podcast! She and yellow writer/host Ronit Plank discussed the Conversations with My Other Voice album and book, the tools she used to choose what was included in the work—and whom, and which part was the most difficult. Plus, they laughed a lot. It’s a good listen! We hope you’ll check it out.

Also, we have sold out of freestanding copies of Conversations with My Other Voice: Essays (thank you!), but have a handful of the t-shirt and book bundles left. All copies purchased through Bandcamp are signed by Buick and come with the custom bookmark!

33 SLADE

Over the holiday break, we finally added both 33 Slade albums to all major streaming platforms! You can now find The Way to Win: A True Story and Harmonies for One wherever you get your music! Enjoy.

We thanks you for being here, and we can’t wait to bring you new music and writing this year.

All our best

Buick Audra's Conversations with My Other Voice is out today!

From Buick:

Conversations with My Other Voice is out today!✨

Today is the day, friends! Conversations with My Other Voice—the album and the memoir—are in the world today. Took me years to put all this together, but it took me a lot longer to grow into the person who could tell these stories without abandoning myself in the process. Without making it better for others. Without making it sparkle. That’s over now, but I couldn’t have done it until I did.

I thank everyone who touched this work with their talents, intention, and care. They’re listed below.

This work is for anyone who ever felt like they didn’t belong, who lost themselves for a time, who dared to speak up when the cost was high, or who doubted their own voice. Fucking same. May the work be of some comfort and encouragement. It certainly has been for me.

The other day, someone asked me how I feel about my release. I don’t love that question, to be honest. It’s big, it involves labor, and I tend to feel 50 ways about everything. But what I said in response surprised me.

I said, “Proud.”

And it was true. That’s new!

The book and album received a beautiful feature in The Nashville Scene yesterday; writer Edd Hurt said, “Conversations is a first-rate rock album that’s melodic and riff-savvy.” He said many other awesome things, too. Read here!

The physical books arrived about a week ago, and when I tell you I cried, I’m not exaggerating. It didn’t seem real until I held one in my hand. But now it’s very real, and if you pre-ordered one, you likely already have it in your possession. My hope is that the book and the album will be consumed in tandem, as they were created as companion works. However, they each hold up on their own.

That’s it! Thank you for being on this journey with me! Thank you for the support, the attention, the kindness. I hope you enjoy the work!

And The official album release show is this Wednesday, September 28th, at the Basement here in Nashville! Hope to see my local community there!

Thank you again! Turn the music up!
